Offshore Sailing School

Real Sailing Experience

The programme is designed for beginners who want to discover sailing and obtain an Offshore Sailing Licence.

It is the complete Beginners’ Sailing Programme of the North Aegean Sailing Club, combining theoretical education through e-learning with practical training in real harbour and open-sea conditions.

The theoretical part is completed before departure. Participants then join an organised seven-day flotilla, where they complete their practical training through real sailing passages.

No previous sailing experience is required.

A Unique Open-Sea Training Experience

Training during the flotilla offers a unique combination of learning, travelling and real sailing experience.

Participants sail in the open sea, follow different routes and approach a variety of harbours and anchorages.

Every day brings new experiences and different wind, sea and weather conditions. Participants learn to observe their surroundings, assess the conditions and adapt their decisions and yacht-handling techniques.

Each destination introduces different training challenges, including harbour approaches, anchoring, manoeuvring, marine traffic and crew coordination.

Every leg of the flotilla becomes a complete practical lesson, while each new destination creates a different opportunity to learn and improve.

Theoretical Education Through E-learning

Before the flotilla begins, participants complete their theoretical education through e-learning.

The theoretical programme provides the essential knowledge required to participate safely as a member of a crew and understand the correct operation of a sailing yacht.

The syllabus includes:

  • Sailing terminology and parts of the yacht
  • Basic principles of aerodynamics
  • Sail handling and adjustment
  • International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea
  • Basic mooring and anchoring principles
  • Basic navigation and nautical chart reading
  • Communication at sea
  • Basic meteorology
  • Emergency procedures
  • Safety at sea

Seven-Day Practical Training During the Flotilla

After completing the theoretical programme, participants continue with practical training during an organised seven-day flotilla.

Participants become active members of the crew and apply their theoretical knowledge in real harbour and open-sea conditions.

Before every passage, the instructor provides a briefing covering the planned route, weather conditions, safety procedures and crew responsibilities.

Throughout the day, participants rotate between different crew positions and receive training in the preparation, handling and operation of the yacht.

At the end of each passage, the instructor reviews the day’s training and provides practical feedback.

The daily programme may be adjusted according to the route, weather conditions and the instructor’s safety assessment.
